Q stood up, pulling me to my feet. His arms banded around me as his chin rested on the top of my head. “Do you trust me, Tess?”

No.

Yes.

I don’t know.

I didn’t want to lie and I didn’t know the answer, so I said nothing.

Q gathered me harder. “This is why I have to do this. I need to earn your trust. You need to earn my trust. This is our crescent-moon, Tess. It’s more important than any honeymoon after the wedding. It’s about us fighting our fucking issues so they don’t taint our future.”

Pulling back, his pale eyes locked with mine, ensnaring me, sending my heart thrumming like a sparrow. “You and me. We need this. This crescent-moon will offer light in the never ending darkness. Give me seven days to turn our crescent-moon into a full moon and then an eclipse. Let me walk you through the fucking dark. Trust me to bring you back to the light.

He sounded like a bard from some romantic novel. His accented voice was hoarse and impassioned and swept up with promises. I had no idea what he had planned, and somehow I didn’t think even Q knew. But I did know he was right.

We needed this.

More than we knew.

“I’m yours for seven days, maître.”

He chuckled softly. “You’re mine for eternity, esclave. But the next seven days belong to our healing and putting our monsters to rest.”
