I killed a book, and I can explain…

Well, it’s time!

Preorders are mostly up, I have the ebook and paperback cover (OMG so pretty), and I have a special edition hardback cover (so in love). Therefore, it’s time to talk.

What on earth is going on with me, you ask?

Well…I did a thing.

After writing 200,000 words on Souls of Sand and Smoke, I CTRL ALT DELETED.

I started again.

I wrote 50,000 words.

And LOVE what I wrote.

However…this world – Simperium – where this tale takes place is colossal. Fourteen realms, different races, different magics, different everything, and because I’ve lived in this world (on and off) over the past six years, it has grown to have so many facets, twists, and history that means the characters were chaffing against me for starting the story where I did. By choosing that starting point, I was losing out on all the good stuff – the best stuff. And it was just too rich and passionate and heartbreaking o NOT write about it.

To put it plainly…I was trying to write their love story at the 75% mark of their journey, when in reality…I have to start from the beginning.

What does this mean?

Well, I fought their commands for a while. I did my best to make it work. I clung to the title Souls of Sand and Smoke for as long as I could…until I couldn’t anymore.

Most writers will tell you that if you lose the heart of the story, it’s nearly impossible to keep writing and believing in it and unfortunately, my characters got pissed that I wasn’t listening.

Instead of helping me write, they filled my head with their beginning and commanded I stop.

To Listen.

To obey.

So…I did. Which was scary and frustrating to kiss goodbye to six months worth of work. However, without those six months, I wouldn’t be where I am now with my heart overflowing for this story and the utmost belief that this is the right move.

Killing a book has never felt so good.

Souls of Sand and Smoke is no more. Gone. Buh-bye. However, the world and the characters are still VERY much alive. SO alive in fact that it’s pure torture not to be in their tale right now, writing what happens next. And I LOVE that feeling. I’m beyond excited to have that feeling back and know (right down to my soul) that this was the right move and have spidey-tingling senses that this book is THE book.

The new title is WHEN A MOTH LOVED A BEE – which might seem a bit odd at the moment but OMG it fits the book in ways that gives me shivers (You’ll see what I mean soon). The title was organic and not chosen by me but entirely Runa and Darro (the characters I am so madly in love with).

Why should you read this book?

Well, it’s the perfect blend of heart-tugging pain from The Boy & His Ribbon, unapologetic darkness from Tears of Tess, and rich tangled history like Debt Inheritance. It’s unique and powerful and I’m addicted.

Now that I have the preorders up and the cover is locked and loaded for a cover release, I will be a lot more forthcoming with teasers and updates because I want to shout to the world how much I love this book.

In summary:

Souls of Sand and Smoke is no more. It has been replaced with When a Moth loved a Bee and is the same dark fantasy that I’ve been talking about for months—just tweaked in ways that make it SO MUCH BETTER!

The preorder dates are just a placement holder at this point and a confirmed release will be announced once I’ve finished writing.

I have a special edition hardback for this release that I’m in love with and will be the first time I’ve done a hardback release so I’m very excited!

Prepare for lots of teasers and snippets as we get closer to release but for now, here are the preorder links!

$3.99 preorder and $4.99 on release day – it won’t be going into KU.
